I can't remember if we added that. I know we do it for replies, not sure if we do it for things you're quoting yet...

looks like we do! we broadcast at most 3 referenced quoted events when creating a post.

Interesting! Maybe something wrong on the Amethyst side then (app I'm currently using)

The EU achieved it's main goal of peace in Europe since the Treaty of Rome in the 1950s. It's single market has brought prosperity to hundreds of millions of people.

Sure, it's far from perfect and there's plenty of room for improvement, but ditching it altogether would really only benefit Europe's enemies

The peace part is debatable. That could also be due to American military dominance. We'll find out soon enough :-)

I also don't abolishing the EU is the right move, but its powers needs to be severely restricted. Unfortunately that doesn't happen, which means trying to abolish it may be the only option left. Not my preference though.

I don't think a reform of the EU is possible. The structures want to preserve themselves. No authority abolishes itself.

A more realistic way is for the country to leave. Great Britain has shown the way.

Great Britain is a giant cluster fuck since Brexit and there's not a single country in the EU standing in line to leave after having witnessed that. Everything that was promised for Brexit has not come true and they are now significantly poorer, have a dysfunctional NHS and much more refugees (the three key topics for Brexit). Reality is, Brexit was always about deregulating large corporates, and that's exactly what we've seen so far

Here in NL our own "Nexit" party won exactly 0 (zero) seats in the last EP elections...

There was peace long before the EU, namely from 1945 to 1992. Before the EU octopus, there was an economic alliance called the EWR. Here, free countries traded with each other in peace. Each country had its own suitable currency. There was no bureaucratic apparatus that wanted to lump everything together, from Portugal to Estonia.

The EU is not Europe.

The beginnings were: Foundation of the European Economic Community (EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM)
