Massacre In Syria: No Country For Alawites, 1,000 Dead, Women Stripped In Revenge Killings

Syria’s deadliest clashes: 1,000 killed, women paraded naked in revenge killings. Over 1,000 people as government-backed gunmen launched 'revenge killings' against the Alawite minority, considered loyal to former President Bashar al-Assad. The violence erupted March 6, with security forces clashing with Assad loyalists. The government has since regained control of most areas, closing roads to the coastal region. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported 745 civilian deaths, with 125 government security personnel and 148 pro-Assad militants also killed. In Latakia, Alawite-majority areas faced electricity and water cuts, while homes were looted and torched. Witnesses recounted horrifying scenes where women were stripped, paraded naked, and shot dead. In Baniyas, one of the worst-hit towns, bodies were left on streets and rooftops as gunmen prevented burials. Many Alawites are now fleeing to Lebanon for safety, according to Lebanese politician Haidar Nasser.
