Yes, sure but not everyone has the skills to get deleted posts, and if you're lucky you might be able to not be screwnshotted.

Some abuse is like some colleague or spiteful non-techy person who cannot or will not try too hard. It's just a matter of reducing those easy scenarios. No?? Why make it so easy?

Also mistakes happen. You could post a photo by accident, or accidentally has eg personal details or whatever the case may be.

It's not always as 'serious' as your post is making it. We're not all Mr Robot, some people might just accidentally post something and feel uncomfortable.

A 'good enough' deletion is good enough for most of us who are just goofballs and not international espionage supercoders lol

Yes, I have personally posted things I wish I could delete. But the point is, it's impossible on nostr

Yeah but you can increase the possibility of a Good Enough deletion by only posting to relays which accept this. Whilst also bearing in mind it is a best attempt and leaky. But also probably quite effective if you're a small poster not on any hate radars lol.

it's not only impossible on nostr, it's impossible on the internet, but slightly more impossible on nostr, because of the background goings on with subscriptions on relays

Yeah I think everyone kind of knows this. 'The internet is forever' or whatever the phrase is. But I'm just saying one measure is to not make it so easy. There's a lot of spiteful people with bad intentions who also don't have the tech skills, but would be very happy with how easy trawling through posts for potential ammo, can be on nostr.

I obviously not really know what I'm talking about tho. Lol.

indeed, that's my point, and why i say "more impossible" because it is definitely in practice easier to catch events on nostr

but the situation is no different on farcaster and bluesky and mastodon also, if you are running infrastructure, you see it... hell, bluesky DMs aren't even encrypted, only gated by authentication and then it's "trust me bro" the federation node operator isn't snarfing the data

so, yeah, not a problem only for nostr but for decentralised and semi-decentralised social media in total

and even centralised social media has screenshots, even if they don't expose APIs or RSS feeds

fact of life, get over it, welcome to the internet, 50 years later, it's finally dawning on the population that it means a real permanent record

is mesh as easily scooped?

point to point messages are usually encrypted

one to many (like nostr notes) are not, except for DMs and a few other event kinds, and have strong AES encryption on them, and are only readable by those who have the keys involved

Deleting things is just going to cause people to pay more attention to them. No one needs "undeletion skills", just a client that makes it easy. It's more efficient to find posts by deleted status than to find ones with sensitive content.
