The US is said to have expressed concern to Israel after reports that its troops fired on UN peacekeeper positions in Lebanon.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin reportedly told Defence Minister Yoav Gallant in a call on Saturday that the UN’s peacekeeping forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) must not be targeted.
Forty nations who contributed troops to UNIFIL have also signed a joint statement calling for the protection of peacekeepers in Lebanon.
