If it wasn't clear before, it's clear now!!
Text messaging on Android (or is it just pixel phones, somebody enlighten me) is just Google messaging. They own those texts.
Unfortunately, there are some people I still use that with.

it makes sense for stock pixel to use a google app for sms.
android phones let you pick your sms app. if running graphene it wont be using google messages
Ah, but then you lose RCS (if you ever get it to work)
I throw shade sometimes, but texting on Android is in a bad spot. I have family who struggle with it.
What's RCS?
Googles attempt to add features similar to iMessage. It’s been a nightmare, because they allowed carriers to implement it themselves, and federation never worked right.
From what I understand, Google is now trying to bail it out by doing it all themselves.
