Just a few thoughts:
- you’d only be giving away your IP if you’re already giving it to relays (I.e. not behind a vpn)
- some clients will alert you if a profile appears with the same nickname and a different NIP-5, or one that does not validate (Nostur does this)
- the real value added by NIP-5 is a human readable way to find someone’s profile. It definitely should’ve never been called verification.

But only on domains without cost. There will be a list of well-known not-free nip5 domains, then this will be to expensive for mass spam.
But that service can be as cheap as nostrich.house for a single real user.
