Kk same. I honestly don’t notice it much - I only see the notifications of follows on primal, not damus where I spend the large majority of my time here.
But to your potential point…. I haven’t interacted with many new accounts.
There aren't any.
It's just an effect of the user base stagnating and concentrating. There has to be a gigantic influx, for any of it to trickle down from the Primal recommended list, and that hasn't happened in months.
People tend to go on a follow orgy, when they first join, and then they just stick with the frens they make along the way or leave.
That tracks. I have done maybe 2-3 reviews of my follows in 2 years. Trending is mind numbing, damus’ global is pretty needle in the haystack.
Follow notifications are pretty high on my dark UX pattern list.
Recently even more so since I see more and more ways to get out of the Follow concept all together.
