If you want to use markdown you will be able to draft a longform note which supports that. regular text posts will remain plaintext.

Seems very reasonable for this to be a client by client decision. Do I remember there being a bunch of drama around this some months back?

It’s actually spec’d for article notes is the main difference. It was never spec’d for kind 1 notes. Clients should try not to do custom extensions of existing specs if we want to all remain compatible.
