The soul is of course immortal. All souls are equally old. Some have more games in hand. All belong to the Creator. The ones you call NPCs are just dormant having their freewill denied, ironically by themselves. They'll wake up eventually so don't be mean to them for they don't understand what they are doing.

I'm saying they too have something unique inside which can be put to good use someday. Willingly, of course. Forcefully it was tried, with disastrous consequences in the past.

Sorry about the confusion. I meant about the freewill. You're a NPC until you activate it in a meaningful way. The soul is more an "inside job" kind of thing. You are free to choose harmful stuff but you'll face the consequences. So no free rides.
