Mastodon is terrible for that. People drop 100 tags into a post that is just an all caps racial slur so it shows up for people who search or follow common tags. I just blocked the mostr bridge to get rid of it coming across.

I would prefer a client with configurable tag limits. Don't show any posts with >4 tags. Great for stopping follow whoring influencers in their tracks too.
