most countries have government blocks on stuff now
like rutracker.org can't be seen from portugal, but via my wireguard tunnel to bulgaria i can see it just fine
and then, the other day, i had a site blocked in bulgaria, but turn off the tunnel and works from portugal

VPN or not I get the same result annoyingly
you need to get a VPN that goes outside of australia
i cannot recommend enough wireguard as a basic first step to getting out from a restrictive network... if you know SSH and bash shell stuff you can set up something with a cheap VPS anywhere in the world, even set up multiple, for liek $5/month, and be able to appear wherever you want on the internet to the rest of the world
i get a lot of cloudflare captchas on some sites but i also rarely see a "this site is blocked yada yada" message
i take solace in the fact that the more governments try to stop messages passing across the wires the more incentive there is for other governments to turn a blind eye to letting traffic transit them since that profits their treasury
and that global government is never going to sell. end of.
