This is a glitch with the latest Android version - we reverted the upgrade on the underlying audio module and the fix should go live in the next 48 hours
It's working fine for me so far. Only updated yesterday though.
So far the only glitches I've had are a podcast stopping randomly, a promotional podcast not earning sats and a change to the reward systems. Though that may not be a glitch.

Have the latest version 1.01 (954) and the issue persists. Someone turned on the trim silence button. Luckily my Google podcast app is still working, I'm getting behind on my podcasts.
I replied to the email that Alicia sent. Hope Ya'll can get it fixed.
