"as a good dev, I can confirm that my productivity is 5x with AI"

guess what's the signal and what's noise for the industry

as a bad dev, I can confirm that my productivity is 20x with AI

If this is your way of calling me a bad product designer just come out and say it.

No, I didn't think of you

Dude you posted this immediately after your comment on my quote note of Cameri. And I started it β€œas a product designer who ..”

Don’t bs me. Be honest at least.

calm down, I didn't think about you or care about what you posted

Sure thing. Just subconscious sub-noting 🀣

I don't think that the limitations are the issue.

It's misuse that is the issue.

It you are a good dev AI will help, you can fix it's mistakes.

But nobody should be relying on it, and a lot of people are.

are you a dev or how are you able to give professional advice to devs? do you have opinions on the tool use of a carpenter?

That chrome rug really pissed u off πŸ€¬πŸ€¬πŸ€¬πŸ‘Ί

lol exactly my thoughts when you posted

[Imagine] american chopper meme, chairs πŸ’Ί flying across room 🀣🀣🀣

Cashu is not even a nut, just ask cursor.

I can tell if a carpenter knows their craft by the work they produce.

I have opinions on everything. And I like to share my opinions.

As someone that uses applications made by developers I can personally comment based on my experience using those applications.

That said, I was thinking moreso about AI in general, coding seems to be one of AIs strengths. It's also good for translation between different languages.

But a lot of people rely on it to much and don't end up developing the skills they should.

If the carpenters apprentice ueses a chainsaw instead of a handsaw to make a precise cut not only will they fail but they also won't learn how to actually make a precise cut.

That's why there is so much unfinished and broken vibe coded slop getting around.

I even tried to vibe code an app, but I had the decency not to publish it lol

And I think when AI gets better video coding will be more like giving the carpenters apprentice a table saw that can make procise cuts instead of the chainsaw it is now.

The chainsaw is great for cutting down the tree and cutting up slabs or posts, but then to turn those slabs and posts into beautiful furniture or the frame of a house takes more procise tools.

That said I have seen some amazing work done with chainsaws, just like some people seem to have a gift for prompt writing.

My real gripe with AI is how people who rely on it as a search engine seem to make themselves retarded.

It's an amazing tool for some things but thinking for us is not one of them

Don't know how vibe got changed to video I clearly need to proofread more.

But this is a great example, this autocorrect/autofill bullshit is a step down from AI.

If I was typing on a real keyboard or an old phone with the 1=abc2=def etc. keypad I wouldn't make mistakes like that.

I'm no authority or expert.

Call it dunning Kruger if you want. It's a valid point. I have opinions on everything.

That said I also have experience using both apps made by devs, and furniture made by carpenters.

I can tell a fair bit about the tools used and skill of the craftsman by using the finished product.

The finer details matter.

my only irl correlation is when SatNavs first appeared and luckily I already knew how to navigate my country with a mental road map, because I'd used paper maps for years.

And then I saw the next generation relying solely on TomTom's etc and getting into absolutely hilarious situations and sometimes downright deadly!

Whereas I was able to use SatNav's as an additional aid, to help speed up my commutes.

Similar to what you're saying I guess

There will be people driving into ocean, yes.

Or railroad tracks for extra spice πŸš†

Maps are the same.

Before paper maps we had songlines that created even better mental maps of an area.

As a developer who doesn't know how to program, I can confirm that AI has given me the ability to program. It's a superpower. I've used AI programming to build an AI hardware and a beautiful website. Maybe there will be more.

Which service / model do you use?

I'm a bad dev but my productivity still got 5x with LLMs πŸ˜‚

AI will make you as a dev (much) more productive.

Not sure if it can make you a dev.

only you can make you a dev

What about, as a dev my productivity is 5x, but AI has real limitations, which are connected to my limitation to work with the ai?

if you are already really good on your specific field there are studies that support the idea that ai tools actually slow you down

Even though you think it’s accelerating yourself
