I don't think its about "survival" unless you mean as wielders of authority in the regime.

Because exactly the same happens with climate change, racism, gender, ukraine - the accumulated zoo of current things.

The people pushing these agendas could not care less about any of the issues they are riding. Their sole interest is to use them as tools for bullying and controlling others, and showing membership / position in the regime.
