Not necessarily. Increasing taxes can generate the money for UBI and OpenAI has proposed a tax on AI revenue to pay for a global UBI fund. Iโm not saying that particular plan is good but taxing the productive gains from ai could be a good direction.
UBI is not about people just doing nothing, for the time being anyway. In the US studies Iโve seen post COVID itโs supposed to be a form of relief assistance for the severely impoverished who often do work (and many times have kids). There was a great documentary that released recently you should watch.
Ofcourse there are bad implementations of UBI. There are bad implementations of any policy. Is this an ideal situation? No itโs not. Is it more helpful than sitting by while people struggle to make ends meet? Yes.
