Is it possible to watch the Harry Potter goblet of fire movie without having read the book and know what the fuck is going on?

I think I’ve read the book 6 times and I’m watching the movie tonight just on a whim and all I can think is if you didn’t read the book I just don’t see how you could follow the plot

My take, I always avoid watching the film if I read the book because the human minds are a mysterious thing. Often than not actors or storyline are cut to the imagination or the vision of the director is not quite there. The list can go on. The bottom line, what we imagine through reading does not always bring to life in film and can ruin your experience. 👌☺️

I tend to agree with you, the exception being Andy Weir’s books and film adaptations. The Martian was close enough to the book and the creative liberties the movie took just made it better or funnier. I’m very hopeful for project hail Mary next year.

You are lucky then, I don't remember that I had the pleasure to enjoy creative liberties from book adaptations. 😁

having read the book before the movie was made,

and my kid heard the audio book before seeing the film,

…, definitely hard to say. I enjoy the film, but it’s too short.

Out of all the movies they did, I remember that one being one of the worst. 😅

It’s just so bad. I mean one through three weren’t great… one was OK two, I guess was OK. I can barely remember 3… 4 is so awful… but 5, 6, and 7? it’s like the director suddenly gave a shit. And if I understand correctly, it was a completely different director.

I will be devil's advocate. Movie 3 is awesome. I didn't appreciate it when I was young thought. I always saw it on TV and I couldn't appreciate all the details
