I find it so ironic that the entire superpower of computers is that they can do lots of dumb things really really fast, and yet programmers spend so much of their time worrying about the speed of their programs.

Moore's law won't hold forever. not understanding performance will leave alot of developers in a bad place when they can't rely on vertical scaling to fix their shitty code.

Resources are finite, the less efficient more CPU, RAM, bandwith, and all hardware involved are necessary. Plus is one lawyer is inefficient the layer above must do more work. But of course there are tradeoffs.
