#806238 Tales of a wise Rabbit:

On the road from Riga to Warsaw (That’s the goal). I started by foot packing my stuff and saying goodbye to nostr:npub1hklphk7fkfdgmzwclkhshcdqmnvr0wkfdy04j7yjjqa9lhvxuflsa23u2k. Couldn’t have wished for better company throughout the weekend! 🧔

Soon I was running into nostr:npub14km3wxd554j0vls9amq23tue8zyj6tceyapfam8068q496ld5l7s6uck35 who was coming out of the occupation museum. I realized that I hadn’t seen much of the city that weekend, was occupied enough by #bh2023. Will have to come back next year!

After I crossed the main bridge, I was standing on the street that was leading outside the city. I didn’t have much luck at that spot, with my goals of going to Kaunas, Elk and Warsaw being a bit ambitious, so I decided to take a bus to a more favorable spot that was along the highway leading towards Lithuanian border.

First Person to take me with them was Edik, only for a few Kilometers though but he took me to a better spot.

Here I stood for what seemed like ages and realized that I had to lower my goals so I put Iecava on the sign, a small city on the road towards the Latvian border.

I was taken there by Edwin a chef that works in an Italian Restaurant in Riga.

He dropped me off on a bus stop outside Iecava which was good for stopping though pretty high speed, so I stood there for a fair amount of time seeing cars speeding by and slowly loosing hope of making it anywhere significant that day.

Luckily Igor hit the brakes and took me 20km further towards the border to a city called Bauska. He’s working with granite, building beautiful stairs and tables for public and private customers in Riga. He told me, that he was hitchhiking from Berlin to Riga when he was younger and therefore felt obligated to fulfill the hitchhikers code of honor by taking me part of the way.

Different bus stop, same feelings. Doubt and Hunger slowly creeping up. It was getting late in the afternoon and I hadn’t even made it to the Latvian border yet.

Truck drivers hinted that they were going to sleep and weren’t therefore able to take me with them, everyone except Pavel, who told me that he was going to Warsaw the next morning and that I could sleep in the back of his truck. He took me to the Latvian, Lithuanian border and stopped his truck there since his driving time for the day was already depleted by going from Riga to Tallin and back.

Since it was still bright I decided to try to push further, I wanted to make it to Warsaw in time to catch Fernando who has a place for me, going to Berlin.

Currently I’m sitting in the back of a white van steered by two fierce looking but very hearty Lithuanians Roman and Nadim. They are going to Kaunas, finally I’m making some progress. Let’s hope I’ll get lucky again and find someone that is going to Warsaw in the night, willing to take me with them.

After 1,5hrs trying to find someone going further I feel like I should resign for today. Hitchhiking in the dark is exponentially harder and I think my luck has run out for a night.

However I’m at a pretty good spot I’d say, sitting in a 24h gas station. Got some music, my book with me and think I’ll spend the night here. Tomorrow I’ll try to make it to Berlin. Since I wasn’t much of an early bird today, I’ll see if I’m more successful tomorrow morning. 1000km to go.
