Doesn't make sense they can buy bitcoin, but not withdraw it for 5 years...? with their restrictions, my kid would be stuck on their platform for who knows how long.

Honestly, it's like restricting cash. I give my kid $10 for lunch in cash, I actually don't know where is REALLY went, is that the worry with bitcoin?

That's what I'm saying. With Zeus they can spend. Have them download the bitcoin company app. Then they can buy gift cards as you stated but in a private way. All I'm saying is you can be their bank. Give them a real wallet.
