Capitalism (in the sense of private ownership of the means of production) is dependent on the state power and all these blamed as the "evil guys" in the article have authoritarian regimes which are not much different from one big corporation owning everything. Putin for an example even does not pretend to be a progressive or a socialist. So, that is not even a dichotomy. I'm a radical leftist (anarchist/left libertarian) so personally don't take anything less than the direct democracy and direct action.
