Covid is deadly for people with pre-existing conditions, metabolic disorders and the elderly, but it’s insufficiently so to kill many healthy people under 70. The overall IFR is about 0.2 percent, with the vast majority of that group either old or sick. To incentivize independent-minded younger people the next lab leak needs to be a far more lethal strain.
