Part 12 of my #Pride #vexillology series: Genderqueer

The Genderqueer pride flag was created in 2011 to represent those people that reject the traditional categories of gender.

Genderqueer is an umbrella term used to describe identities outside the traditional, cis-gender binary. Very similar to the term “non-binary”, “genderqueer” was first used in queer magazines in the 1980s and predates the emergence of the term “non-binary”, but “genderqueer” can also refer to genderfluid people as well as other gender identities or expressions.

For this flag,

lavender = androgyny and other queer identities

white = agender

green = non-binary
