Is #namecoin still a thing and if so why aren’t we using it more?

I am curious about your perspective on Namecoin. Are you inclined to describe it as a failed project? Or do you have a different viewpoint?
Well from my perspective it seems dead? Not sure if there is still a people developing/maintaining?
I had used it in the past. It worked fine then so maybe it’s still running fine?
