4runner is solid.

Weโ€™ve got a mid-2000s Highlander. Bought it off a lady in California when it was around 12 years old with less than 90K miles on the odometer. It has needed so little maintenance over the years. Itโ€™s barely broken in.

Highlanders are nice..

Great for lugging around furniture I buy off Craiglist. My whole place is furnished in nice things that cost less than half what people paid for them and I donโ€™t even have to do the assembly.

Also came to drop Highlanders.

The older CRVs check a lot of boxes for me too.

I used to get mild new car envy. Now I only have respect for well-maintained beaters.

Just bought a pristine used Q5. Itโ€™s got 140k miles on it but it looks like it was never driven. Inside and out. And I got a killer deal on it!

Look into the gen 1 Touareg TDI. The 6 cylinder not the 10. They are beast.

I like that but thats luxury. I want something i can beat on haha ๐Ÿ˜„

They are very capable off road vehicles but will be more expensive and nicer than an old jeep, no doubt. So harder to stomach thrashing lol.

But they get 24 mph, can tow more than any v6 gas truck and like I said can wheel hard. Iโ€™ve got the gen2 and I love it, same motor as the gen1 v6

The new ones are nice but im looking at the older gen and i can work with that for a beater

The gen1โ€™s are sick. I want one to take wheeling too ๐Ÿ˜‚

This is a good resource: https://offroadium.com/heres-why-a-vw-touareg-with-off-road-mods-may-be-better-than-a-tacoma.html

I personally am a diesel maxi so I would search for a diesel as they have a lot more torque and are more economical / last longer but this guy loves his 3.6L gas motor too.

BMW E46 M3.

Cherokees run forever, you have the right idea.
