Even those who help without expectation do so because it aligns with their own values and gives them a clear conscience. In the end, it's always about one's own benefit – whether directly or indirectly. Selflessness is just a clever mask for well-disguised egoism.

And there's nothing wrong with it. The impact you have on the world is separate from your motivation. If you have a positive impact it doesn't matter if you did it for yourself PR not, same as a negative impact. The only thing that's affected is yourself; one should be honest with themselves about it, you're not a worse person if you do something nice for others for self serving reasons than if you do it selflessly.
