Just set up Blockstream’s Green #Bitcoin Wallet. There’s nothing in it, but it gives me a chance to experience the onboarding UX/UI from a noobie’s POV.

If I were out and about with family and friends at a restaurant or a bar or a concert or a movie, this would be a new and scary noobie onboarding experience.

I had to write down 24 seed phrases and create a PIN in order to set up the new wallet on the Green Wallet. And the app quizes you - rightfully - by asking you to enter some of the seed words before creating the new wallet.

While setting a PIN isn’t uncommon, the 24-word seed phrase certainly is. And suddenly, the noobie has to think about:

1) How to literally write down 24 words, in correct order, and without pen and paper on hand (because they’re out and about) And NO, the 24 words absolutely cannot be typed into a Note app on the phone.

2) Is the surrounding environment safe from prying eyes and cameras (as Green recommends).

3) Where to safely store this piece of paper with 24 words.

I’m just re-acquainting myself with the noobie experience.

Unfortunately, WoS is not available in America. WoS pulled their app from the App Store and Google Play.

I also wanted the noobie to have a non-custodial wallet.

If the noob can’t write down and secure 24 words….they should continue serving their masters. Bitcoin is not for them.

For sure. Apps can always be better, but there’s no magic UX bullet. At some point ya gotta put in the work.

Bitcoin *is* for them.

I’m researching the easiest non-custodial wallet(s) UX for a noobie when they’re out in public, at a bar or club or restaurant, where there are prying eyes and very little privacy.

Most peeps don’t carry pen and paper to write down 24-word seeds. And the idea of it is 100% foreign to a noobie. And I’d never have them type those 24 words into a Notes app on their phone.

I’m making sure I understand the noobies first-impressions and POV, and acknowledging their obstacles.

I’m all about moving the needle forward in UX so fewer noobies are left behind.

No need to be dealing with your life savings in a bar room.

Not life savings, no.

But onboarding a noobie to #Bitcoin via a non-custodial Lighting wallet like Phoenix, yes.

And watching their face light up when they receive their first #BTC, without KYC/AML, a bank or government getting in the way? Priceless.
