Feels pretty dystopian. Keep in mind that the world gradually becomes dystopian. Like boiling frogs, people don’t really notice it until it’s too late.

Very true. We're pretty far along. But can get way worse.

The move to dystopia is a natural progression. There needs to be an aggressive redistribution of power every so often in society to keep governments in check before the point of no return. Look at North Korea as a preview of things to come. This is what happens when we trade freedom for safety. The fact that superpowers around the world allow the humanitarian crisis going on in North Korea to persist tells a lot about the minds of the people in power. This is the type of detailed control every current world leader lusts for.
