Instead of gifting stupid fiat stuff to your loved ones.

Maybe just gift them some sats over lightning.

Xmas is knocking at the door.

So think about it.

I would only gift over lightning because it works

and the setup is much easier then seed backup.

If it is "lost" the lightning node owner still got the benefit.

Or is it not a good idea ?

Pretty easy to write down 12 or 24 words imo. If they loose access to the phone or the downloaded wallet, get a new one and insert the seed, done. Shows them also the benefit of interoperability and the magic of seed phrases.

yeah you could use phönix for this case

but it got to many buttons

i just feel more comfortable with loosing

sats to a lightning node instead the chain

People aren't as incapable as we sometimes seem to assume. If they can handle a WLAN password or any password on a piece of paper why not 12 words.

You could also use BIP85 and be the backup in case they fuck it up.

I educated a lot of people on the self custody wallet aspect, trust me.

Some dont get it that quick.

I mean a 1 minute app setup and receiving the first sats within seconds.

And then can instantly spent it again.

Wasn't my intention to sound like you are not educating on self custody. Just saying I prefer a solid onchain wallet setup for that case, it's unbeatable imo.

But the important part is, they get some sats for xmas and not some fiat crap nobody needs.
