Jeff Kinney Speaks With Cartoon Brew On The Future Of The “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid” Franchise At 20th Century Animation. “The Hope Is Keep Expanding With These Characters”Cartoon Brew sat down with “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid” creator Jeff Kinney discussing the new installment in the franchise “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw” directed by Matt Danner (Disney Digital Network “Legend Of The Three Caballeros”, “Oswald The Lucky Rabbit” pilot, Disney TVA Pilot “MEGA MEGA Whoosh”, “Shred Force”) written by Kinney trought 20th Century Animation and Walt Disney Studios.During the interview Kinney explaining how was the process of jumping to the animation world for four films and what we can expect from future installments on the franchise.“The hope is to make a movie where we take the Heffleys really out of this environment and put them in a totally different environment, and that will be a big challenge to us. I think that will add a lot of depth to the Wimpy Kid world and universe, so that’s the hope that we keep expanding this thing, so that we have a whole library of movies set with these characters. And, to tell really funny stories for years to come.” — Jeff KinneyKinney’s hope is coming true as the next installment of “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid” franchise is a film adaptation of “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Getaway”. The book follows Greg and his family flying to a resort called Isla de Corales for Christmas. The Heffleys went there because that was the place where Greg’s mom and dad went for their honeymoon but as always things go very wrong.“Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Getaway” has Matt Danner returning as director with Jeff Kinney as writter.
