Name a country / area that’s a lot nicer than people imagine and one that’s a lot worse than people imagine?

I’ll go first: Hollywood. I thought Hollywood would be a cool place but it’s mostly run down and creepy.
I was going to say LA. Besides the weather pretty much everything else sucks.

Outside of the cities, California is quite nice. In the south, Death Valley is a spectacle on its own. Further north you have the sierras on the east, Big Sur on the coast, then you get to Carmel/Monterey. Skip SF, and get to Sonoma County and Mendocino County, it’s beautiful. Tahoe isn’t bad either.
Worse: LA/California in general
Underated Chile (never been but looks really cool and is considered one of the best places to visit by many.)
Singapore is much better than what people imagine. Just the weather is sultry
Hungary is a lot nicer than one can imagine, US CA is a lot worse than people tend to imagine 🐶🐾🫡
Peru is also underrated 
Australia. Most of the animals are a lot nicer than foreign people imagine. And the deadly ones will kill you quickly so that's not so bad.
Athens / Melbourne (holds the title for longest lockdowns on the planet 🏅)
Mexico is nicer than people imagine.
The Gulag is worse than people imagine.

🇦🇱 Albania has very bad reputation but in reality it is a nice place, it has an awesome cuisine and overall is surprisingly great.
🇦🇹 And the other one is Austria. The whole country is essentially a Russian sleeper cell. People there are German or Swiss wannabes. Cities and Nature are still beautiful, and they did a great job hiding the fact that Hitler was actually one of them.
Central CA near the parks is low keys awesome. very overlooked
