That's often used in stories when we don't want to directly describe sex. For example, in a famous anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion was not an R-18 work, so this was used.

Ah okay...

Now I'm curious how Indian shows depict it 🤔(I can't remember as I stopped watching TV long back)
