Humans are tribal and competitive. Sports seem to satisfy these two instincts especially in men. When I used to play football there was a great feeling that I couldn’t get anywhere else when I would compete. Sometimes I’d make a big play that helps the team win and be celebrated. Other times, I’d take on a leadership role and try to put other players in the best position to succeed. This builds morale and team chemistry so everyone feels energized and can sometimes beat a team that has more talent. It’s like being in a war but without anyone actually dying.

I get playing sports competitively, but i cant understand passively watching as if vicariously winning through your hero/champion.

Does this not impress you at all?
