How sayest thou, shew us the Father?

Yes, there is ONE God. The Catholic Credo says it: “Credo in UNUM DEUM, Patrem omnipotentem”, “I believe in ONE GOD, almighty Father”. We say that every day, in every prayer, at every mass.
When Jesus says to the Jews: “Before Abraham was, I AM”, compare that to what God is telling to Moses in Exodus 3:14: “God said to Moses: I AM WHO AM. He said: Thus shalt thou say to the children of Israel: HE WHO IS, hath sent me to you.”
Can you explain to me why Jesus speaks to the Jews like God spoke to Moses? And why the Jews tried to Stone Him to death just after He told that?
