A coordinated network of Facebook pages run from Nigeria targeted UK voters on the right and left using polarizing political messaging, and pushed an anti-Ukraine agenda using tactics that are a hallmark of Russian influence operations. In the past these efforts have been supported by billionaire data companies and amplified by Facebook’s algorithms seemingly in an effort to manipulate voters leading to more extreme left and extreme right election results. Governments should ban Facebook Instagram WhatsApp from data collection as they seem to use and share this data for voter manipulation.
