Do you mulch (not volcano mound style). I’ll typically do a few inch donut around the tree. Helps keep moisture around it. I’ve also started using biochar with plantings. We have heavy clay soil, looking to improve with biochar.

Oh yes, i mulch around all my trees. With our heat/drought, its a necessity. Thats what i'll be doing next on these newly planted ones. Sometimes i'l build borders around them, to keep the mulch in. Havent tried biochar yet. I do use rabbit manure from our rabbits, and once or twice a year a good organic store bought fertilizer.
