Gosh, I remember when being a Gmail user was considered cutting edge (I think I started using in 2005). Now most of the smart folks have had to bend over backward to untangle themselves from all things Google.

It really is! But to be fair to the design devs, I have not found a UI that is anywhere near as smooth and easy to use as Gmail's. Zoho Mail was the closest, IMO. But I've also recently found Infomaniak's Ksuite mail, which is also really nice, just not as customizable (on the free plan, anyway)

Never tried those but protonmail works great for me
