2 degrees with negative wind chill and the power goes out. You never know when preparedness is going to be required.

8 hours later it gets restored. Bless the crews working in these conditions.

We can always learn lessons no matter how prepared we are or think we are. Next step in our journey is a self reliant heat source for moments like this. It was already going to be the next project. I was actually working towards that the other day, but this just solidifies that priority.

Then future plans include upgrading from a portable generator to a standby--preferably a good distance from the house and diesel, but those could be unrealized dreams.

Overall we were decently well prepared running the generator off a 500 gallon propane tank--a previous lesson learned not to rely on one fuel source (gas). The first generator ended up breaking, but the backup that we colocate at a family members house worked flawlessly.

Pretty frigid temps, glad you prepped.

Sometimes your systems have to be tested to truly know what could be improved upon.

You don't generally get much warning when you need them.

Owning Bitcoin feels like reverse gambling sometimes. I could quickly be more resilient, but it comes at a cost in sats.
