Isn't this necessary to foster the parallel economy though? Isn't bitcoin still money that is to be used in the exchange goods and services? Isn't buying a generator with bitcoin better in many ways than buying it with fiat? (I don't know that Jon did this, merely speaking on principle)

Agreed we will need Bitcoin as medium of exchange - even the most stoic spartan still needs a place to live and food to eat and life isn’t just about saving for some future self just as life shouldn’t be about spending every dime and then some. Mostly my comment was about the people whom spent Bitcoin on an item that is significantly less valuable than the value of Bitcoin today or in the future.
