As a child I remember speaking out against the inhumane treatment of animals (namely squirrels and captured fish) by members of my family. Seeing an animal writhe in pain can only produce an emotional reaction for me.

I just got an ad for fishing

The belief in human exceptionalism and God-ordained sovereignty over other species is a tragedy, and denies an understanding of evolution, speciation, and the Earth’s desire for the fruitfulness of life over time, in any form.

Self-serving beliefs that justify the exploitation of other people, classes, races, or species, all call upon the same logical fallacies that diminish any claim that mankind is at the apex of cognitive development.

Rehabbing a paralyzed squirrel right now

Awwww poor little squirrel I hope they feel better 🥹😫😫

Was it a car collision?

I don’t know. She probably fell out of a tree onto her back. She was found alone and abandoned. She is a paraplegic now — back legs. I plan to take her to a home in Indiana that cares for lots of paraplegic creatures.

I completely agree. We are so biased towards our own species. In specific situations I totally get it, but in the present, technologically advanced era that we live in, such arguments fall flat. As far as I’m concerned from our supposedly (western) empirical worldview of postmodernity, this is an open and shut case. It’s high time humanity takes its place as the translator, mediator, and balancing force for the world. The world of automation doesn’t mean we have to sit back and be lazy all day. Instead, let’s refocus our energy on maintaining the wonderful environment around us and the creatures that live there.

The only thing that separates any two species is the time between them and their common ancestor. We are all genetic brothers with a common ancestor 3.9 billion years ago. Symbiogenesis and Divergent evolution and speciation make life on earth successful and interesting. Man is a temporary note in the symphony of life.

Our reticence to recognize a cooperative position in the life world will be our undoing.

We are haunted by dead men and dead religions. They break us every day with their shackles. Our ancestors (chimps) came into prominence for the sole reason of their cooperation. Ideology has torn apart whatever beauty our species once shared. We must collectively choose our fate if we wish to remain on this planet much longer.
