“The resolution of interpersonal conflicts via social norms enhances liberty as it reduces a society's litigiousness, reduces the perceived need to cover one’s back instead of doing the best thing in any given situation, reduces the need to ‘lawyer up’ and allows human beings to interact and solve problems on their own. It is a pro-social mechanism of dispute resolution. We argue that not only would this lead to a friendlier and more harmonious community, but it would also lead to the expansion of liberty.”
