This is why Schindler’s list is still my favorite world war 2 movie. The genius thing it does is it tells the story from the perspective of the nazis. Schindler is a nazi war profiteer and the movie shows him fucking whores, drinking, rubbing shoulders with the SS and just generally living it up. It actually spends very little time in the camps at ground level. For Spielberg a Jewish filmmaker to understand that the film is so much more when you show the nazis as they were. Rather than as some comic book caricature. Smart, sophisticated, funny, charming, brutal and bureaucratic… I mean truly it’s a towering work of genius. One of the best films ever made. Raises so many questions about the nature of evil.
