The proliferation of hashtags on Nostr tells me that they are misunderstood.
They do not have the function to potentially "boost" engagement in any way. You're gonna have to work harder for that and even harder for zaps.

On the contrary. Without algorithms you need hashtags for people to find your content more easily. That was their initial purpose.
Everyone will see your content eventually on Nostr, we have Global for that.
Hashtags are useful evidently but just currently overused down to words rather than subjects/interests imo
