Two years ago, at the start of the Ukraine war, former ECB President and then Italy Prime Minister Mario Draghi, in order to promote sending weapons to UKR and stopping Russian gas deliveries, infamously said:

"Do you prefer peace or air conditioning?"

Almost everyone replied: air conditioning.

You're right, it's a weird way of thinking.

He meant: if you slaves want peace (by defeating Russia), you must be willing to give up your modern day luxuries (AC) that rely on Russian energy. Otherwise, if you slaves want to keep cheap Russian energy, you can only have war.
