How many full grown animals (cattle) would that work out to per hectare?

It means we’re at 2,65 hectares per head and 4,09 hectares per full grown animal.

Thats 3x what we started out with, and I reckon we can double the density once more over time.

Sorry: 0,265 hectares and 0,409 hectares. We use a measurement which is 1/10th of a hectar here in Norway, so I keep mixing up the numbers😉

Nice! What did utilization post graze look like?

This was the highest I was able to achieve without too much loss in body condition. Too much of what I believe is called tufted hairgrass/tussock grass in english. They would rather leave it.

The tighter you pack and higher utilization you graze the better that regrowth will be each time :)

Was that density higher than what you normally do?

Yeah, I’ve noticed!

My challenge is that the grass here goes to seed/becomes too woody in four weeks, so I need to move the animals quickly.

But, I cant increase the animal numbers to the point where it solves that problem, because then I wont have enough feed for winter (our growing season is only 4-5 months long). Stockpiles also only gets you so far when you have a meter of snow on top of it.

I think I can improve the management significantly by combining UHDG with multiple smalles winter feed harvests. However, thats not economically viable as long as I rent the service. I do plan on getting my own equipment with time😎
