During Covid is when I deleted every post I had ever made in 15 years on Facebook because I could see the direction it was going. I would not call it worse then than now, though. They are still banning and shadow banning like crazy. We still can’t even say the word “vaccine” pretty much anywhere. Maybe X now, but still there is no organic reach on X anymore.

people like the censorship because fighting it with cleaver BS makes you seem edgy and like you're fighting the name while self-censoring and collecting ad money. Basically, every Bitcoin podcast on YouTube bth.

I mean I see pretty consistent criticism of Israel and even the US government today on very mainstream platforms. Love him or hate him hasan is one of the most popular streamers today. Nick Fuentes just had 150k people watching him live after Kirk’s murder.

You had people’s lives destroyed for even saying “corona virus” forget “vaccine.” People’s channels were being taken down for mentioning an illness.

My argument certainly isn’t that “censorship isn’t happening.” I’m sure shadow banning is still very crazy. But videos were being taken down within the hour they were posted during Covid. Decade old channels taken down for being skeptical about the lethality of the virus.

Hell forget even the notion of Covid. I saw videos being taken down for speaking negatively about transitioning kids during that time. Now there are entire channels dedicated to this.

If you’re talking specifically about the Israeli genocide in Palestine being censored you could absolutely be correct. I have no idea. I don’t feel the need to look into it. I think it’s pretty easy to know what’s going on there. I don’t need to see any more dead or dying people to know.

I don’t know if “organic reach” has ever been a real concept. I don’t think that’s how any of these platforms have ever operated.

There’s definitely still censorship. There’s definitely still measures being taken to hide things from the public. But they pale in comparison the measures being taken during Covid and the 2020 election cycle.

Yeah I agree with what you’re saying here - but Hasan is a great example because I have followed him for years and stopped seeing his content across all platforms about 18 months ago.

Twitch for streaming seems to be a lot less sensitive in terms of controlling the speech and reach, probably because people are gaming on there so it’s harder to know if something is “violent” speech or just part of a game.

But even today I do not see any posts about COVID or long covid or vaccines or any of the things that were getting people banned in 2020, so I guess what I’m saying it 2020 created a new baseline for censorship that we’ve all just adapted to now, but it hasn’t gotten better.

I think his partnership was dropped because he was openly calling for violence against certain people. Which is much further than Nick has gone with his speech that has had him stripped of a back account and put him on the no fly list.

I don’t think you’re going to see too many posts today about something that hasn’t been relevant for years.

The most equal comparison today would probably be Israel. I’m not on TikTok but I’ve heard they’re basically polluting people’s feeds with slop. Which is a tactic.

I agree that it created a baseline. They turned the dial from a 3 or 4 up to 10 during Covid (why I’m saying it was worse) and then turned it back down to a 6-8. Which I’m guessing the on going nature of it is what you’re seeing as worse.

Did you see that both Nick and Alex Jones just got deplatformed from YouTube?

I did. Right after YouTube faked an olive branch.
