Can you be accused of murder in a war?

Technically you are killing (murdering) lots of people and being sanctioned by your government to do this.

If you're doing this en-mass, which horrifically is the definition of success, then it is almost inevitable that unintended people die as a consequence.

Of course the winning side always accuses the loosing side of murder after the war, but that aside, can you be considered a murderer during a war?

Caveat, asking these "thought experiment" questions should highlight the absolute pointless, ridiculous, futile nature of all wars.

Wars are the worst, but inevitable product of hierarchical biological scarcity-driven societies.

See Humans. See Apes. See Ants.

That said, IMHO, wealth creation, material and spiritual solidarity, education and trade are the best historical antidotes to them. Both at smaller and larger scale.
