Should definitely be user-configurable, so we can experiment with different parameters and find a reasonable default.

Iris seems very slow, followers don't update well, notes don't load well. Not sure if this is related to the update but seems to load better on other clients.

Have you tried to cmd/cntrl + R refresh the browser / quit the app and restart. Helps in many cases after updates.
