yeah, it makes my skin crawl also when i see opentelemetry libraries in my go.mod... and it is actually sometimes possible to get the same thing without it, but very often not

it's a really serious problem that eventually is going to lead to some serious chest thumping in parliaments when they realise that not only is most software bugged, the bug data can be harvested by almost anyone, including all allies and enemies, and this stuff is at the center of almost every information tech we have now

i think it's possible we could even end up with something like the software version of the Aug Incident from Deus Ex canon, where suddenly it is revealed that almost every device has the same vulnerability created by a ... dun dun dun... telemetry library
