Every server you send a request to could expose whatever data you send it. That means DMs, clicks, scrolls, deleted messages, anything.
Privacy depends on the integrity and security competence of the person running the server you’re interacting with. Those things are scarce.
Nostr is great because it just honestly embraces this aspect of the internet. You post, that’s posted forever. No take backs.

Open Source, diligently maintained, E2EE is a good example imo
Honestly I wish something like that was the standard. Feels like all data should be E2EE. You interact with a therapist over a web portal? Every inch of that should be encrypted on the device so that the portal doesn’t get clear text data. But… that’s just not the way anyone does things.
And instead we get stuff like this:
Yep exactly. We're all too willing as a society to give up our digital sovereignty and privacy for a shred of convenience. It's easier to use a stock OS than installing GrapheneOS. It's more convenient to use the app store than GitHub. Why pay for a good VPN when there's no obvious benefit over not using one? Linux has a learning curve vs iOS. I could go on and on.
The large corporations and governments that control the narratives most people are exposed to benefit from this lack of motivation to keep your data private. There will not be a push for digital sovereignty and privacy from the top. Fortunately the tools exist for those who understand the importance and care to make the effort.
