The are human and make errors … parents should be checking their work anyway. IF children are lucky enough to have that.
Technically the teacher is correct, but the question is poorly worded. 
Commutative property applied to multiplication states that the two are equivalent.
If you say it out loud
“Three times, four” that would be
4+4+4
Only an idiot would read that as
“Three, times four” ( right? )
I am so glad that the distributive property of multiplication means this doesn’t fucking matter.
